Volunteer Opportunities with the American Red Cross
We would like to thank you for expressing an interest in
volunteering for the American Red Cross. The Red Cross is a humanitarian
organization, led by volunteers and guided by its Congressional Charter and the
fundamental principles of the International Red Cross movement, which provides
relief to victims of disaster, and helps people prevent, prepare for, and
respond to emergencies. Volunteers constitute 96% of the Red Cross
workforce. There are numerous ways you can volunteer with the Capital Area
Chapter:
Health & Safety Services volunteers help with first
aid stations at local events such as 4th of July Celebrations, county fairs
and many other events. The also represent the American Red Cross and the
Chapter at health fairs, along with giving first aid presentations to
community and business groups. Volunteer Instructors teach First Aid &
CPR/AED classes along with babysitting, AIDS/HIV education, and many more
health and/or safety related trainings. There are also opportunities to
assist within the office with everyday tasks related to Health & Safety,
such as filing, mail outs, and data entry, and talking with individuals over
the phone or in person about various training opportunities the American Red
Cross has to offer.
Service to the
Armed Forces (SAF) volunteers work closely with
military families in times of emergencies and other life events. SAF
caseworkers relay emergency messages between military families and servicemen
and women serving in the Armed Forces. These communications
are delivered around-the-clock, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Both
active duty and community-based military can count on the Red Cross to provide
emergency
communications that link them with their families back home, access to
financial assistance,
counseling
and
assistance to veterans. Red Cross Service to the Armed Forces personnel
work in nearly 800 chapters in the United States, on 62 military installations
around the world and with our troops in Kuwait, Afghanistan and Iraq. "Around the clock and around the globe the
American Red Cross keeps the American People in contact with their loved
ones serving in the United States Military."
Disaster Services
volunteers respond to emergencies, nearly 70,000
emergencies a year in the United States. As a Disaster volunteer, you could
respond to local or national level disasters, from working a single-family fire
to a 3-week deployment in a hurricane affected region. You may serve on
the local Disaster Action Team (DAT) which prepares and responds to local
disasters.
Local Office Volunteers are always welcome at the Chapter's office.
Are you looking for volunteer work in an office setting? Are you
